Godfall is being developed by Counterplay Games and published by Gearbox Publishing. Counterplay is a studio comprised of developers that previously worked on games like God of War, Call of Duty, Overwatch, and more. Considering the pedigree of the people working on the game, Godfall stands a decent shot at being one of the first standout next-generation video games. However, fans will have to wait for actual gameplay footage to form a more concrete opinion on the matter.

While not much is revealed by the Godfall Game Awards 2019 trailer, we’ve since learned that the game is an action-RPG that will focus on third-person melee combat. Players will be able to hunt for loot, take on “challenging missions,” and fight a variety of enemies and bosses. It sounds like Godfall’s gameplay loop will very much be built around the looting experience, so it should earn its looter-shooter moniker, and may appeal to those who enjoy games like Blizzard’s Diablo series.

Something else fans will want to note when it comes to Godfall is that the game will offer co-op. It can be played solo or with up to two other friends. It’s unclear why the developers decide to limit the co-op to just three players instead of four, but that’s not too uncommon when it comes to online co-op games nowadays.

Something that wasn’t clarified when it comes to Godfall is whether or not it will support local co-op. Local co-op games are few and far between, and if Godfall will support the feature, fans shouldn’t expect to hear more about it until we near the game’s release date. As it stands, Godfall is aiming for release in late 2020, so it may be a launch title for the PS5, or it may come a little after launch.

Godfall will launch on PC and PS5 holiday 2020.
